Who am I?
- Born and raised in Wezembeek-Oppem
- Proud father of Louis (4 years old) and Lila (1 year old)
- Trilingual
- I grew up in the Vosberg neighborhood and now live in Kloostertuin.
- I have a degree in Physical Education and currently work at the European School of Woluwe.
Why am I running for the municipal elections?
My longstanding involvement in our municipality is evident through the various roles I have enthusiastically and passionately held: sports coordinator at VZW Animer and Tennisclub Animer, chairman and coordinator of VZW Elan (which organizes children’s camps, after-school activities, etc.), an active member of the sports committee since 2012, and chairman since 2018. Additionally, my commitment to the Youth Council of Wezembeek-Oppem, the parents’ council at my son’s school (HHC), and the “Propere Burger” initiative reflects my dedication to a better future. With these experiences, I am running as a candidate to continue building, together with you, a dynamic, clean, and supportive community.
Why present myself as an independent? Because at the local level, what matters to me are concrete projects, far from political divisions. My goal is to work for you, for us, without labels—just with determination.
Here are my priorities:
- Mobility: maintenance of roads and sidewalks, expansion of bike lanes without negatively impacting drivers, bike parking at public transport stops, collaboration with schools to encourage cycling.
- Preservation (and creation) of green spaces and the village character of Wezembeek-Oppem, and ensuring the cleanliness of our streets by increasing the number of trash bins, conducting an awareness campaign, and collaborating with schools.
- Quality and transparency of public services: Maintenance of green spaces, proper management of infrastructure, and extending the opening hours of the town hall to better meet the needs of the active population.
- Support for associations: they foster social cohesion, combat isolation, promote volunteerism, and sometimes meet specific needs where the government/municipality is less present.
- Addressing the challenge of aging: 1/3 of those over 75 live alone! (Encouraging seniors to stay active by creating various cultural and sports activities, placing benches in all neighborhoods, etc.)
- Civic participation: Consultation on major projects and transparency regarding public information.
- Childcare: addressing the shortage of childcare places (administrative support, subsidies, creating new places in municipal buildings).
- Integration of new residents: Developing initiatives to facilitate the integration of newcomers into our community.
I count on your support to realize these projects. Let’s give Wezembeek-Oppem a new momentum together.
Gwen Miserque, your committed candidate
