Priorities
1. Economy & Organization
- Take advantage of the absence of debt to reinvest in the maintenance and modernization of our infrastructure (sidewalks, buildings, etc.).
- Evaluate the potential reduction of additional percentages on personal income tax based on precise estimates of our self-financing margin. Our tax burden is already 24% lower than the average in Flanders and 11% lower than the average in comparable municipalities (Kraainem, Tervuren, Hoeilaart, Kortenberg, etc.).
- Seek synergies with neighboring municipalities, as is the case, among others, for the recycling park and the police.
- Make the municipality more attractive as an employer in order to have the necessary resources to fulfill public service missions.
- Implement uniform signage to indicate local businesses.
- Enhance the local business directory on the municipality’s website.
2. Mobility
- Complete the Hortensias neighborhood project: renovation including the parking spaces requested by residents
- Finalize the double drainage and redevelopment project of the Baus Street area in consultation with residents
- Double drainage of Oppem Avenue from the town hall to the bridge (Fietssnelweg)
- Marcellis Street from the town hall to Gergel Street
- Vosberg and Convent Avenue
- Regional Fietsnelwegen along the ring and tram 39 (6.3km)
- Existing: Long Chêne Street, Perkstraat
- Planned: Hippodrome Avenue (1.3km)
- To be planned:
- Wezembeek Avenue (partly by the region) 1.8km
- Oppem Avenue in front of the town hall to the Fietssnelweg (0.2km)
- Ruisseau Street from the bridge to Warandepark Road, including (no more wood chips) 1km
- Molenweg from Waranderberg to Leopold 3 Avenue (and thus to the Fietssnelweg 1.8km)
- Grand Chemin d’Oppem (2.8km)
- Albert Avenue in front of the school (0.5km)
- Lobbying for Malines Road (regional road)
This makes a little over 15 km of dedicated bike lanes, connected by bike-friendly streets where no other arrangements are possible.
Also, introduce right-turn-on-red for cyclists to allow legal turns.
Safety around schools in consultation with schools and key stakeholders: Fermette:- Sports club parking accessible at all times as part of the renovation project
- Convert the angled parking at the beginning of the street into parallel parking to reduce risks when exiting and to allow sidewalk widening.
- Kiss and Ride along Astrid Avenue with a roundabout allowing U-turns
- Bike lane, see network point
- Woonerf on Marcelis Street
- Traffic light turns red if speed exceeds 30km/h during school hours
- Rebuild the bike lane
- Space for school buses
3. Urbanisme
Revision of the communal structure plan, to establish urban planning guidelines for each district, in order to preserve the residential and rural character of our commune, and provide a clear framework for renovations Redevelopment of the Ban Eik plateau without subdividing it.
4. Sport, youth, associations
We believe in the positive impact of sports on health and social relationships, which is why we aim to invest in infrastructure that would become community gathering spaces:
- Completion of the project. Synthetic football field, installation of a hockey field, construction of a new cafeteria, development of a recreational green space accessible to all
- Creation of a skate park based on the Louvain La Neuve model
- Creation of a pumptrack area
- Relocation of the existing outdoor fitness space from the sports hall to Ban Eik or the town center
- Installation of a mixed-use play area at Ban Eik: football, basketball, and roller skating
- Study of a public-private partnership for the restoration of the HHC athletics track
- Study of the possibility of creating Padel courts in the old communal hangar
- Installation of recreational spaces (ping pong, chess, etc.)
Construction of municipal infrastructure for our youth movements
Implementation of project calls to support the organization of local events
Highlighting the new municipal buildings at Ban Eik for the associative and youth sector
Providing logistical and promotional support to local associations and initiatives
Promoting artists from Wezembeek-Oppem: exhibitions in the town hall, beautification of the town, annual exhibitions, etc.
5. Social
- Revive the annual drink for new residents
- Create connections between all the schools in the municipality for organizing joint activities (cross-country races, sports day, poetry contests, conferences, beautification of the municipality…)
- Continue installing public barbecues in consultation with residents to encourage gatherings
- Events: New Year’s Drink, Carnival, Easter Egg Hunt, Outdoor Day, Garage Sale, POP Ball, Family Day, Halloween, Christmas Market, etc.
- Communicate about available subsidies on the municipality’s website
- Double the monthly subsidies for nurseries per child from Wezembeek (currently 15 euros/month, so increase to 30€)
- Maintain the current subsidies for the creation of a nursery (250 to 400€/place depending on category)
- Provide administrative support for childminders
- Creation of a toy library (completion) and a baby library
- Sports activities in every neighborhood of the municipality (Ban-Eik, Bel-Air, Marmotte, Warandepark, town hall, Rue du Ruisseau): walks, tai chi… to enable autonomy and home maintenance for seniors
- Creation of a seniors’ council
- Development of the social restaurant
- Promotion of the Hoplr tool, the mutual aid network set up by the council: https://www.wezembeek-oppem.be/fr/hoplr
- Support for intergenerational activities: homework school, school visits to nursing homes, card tournaments, drawing contests, etc.
- Creation of a guide for seniors to inform them of everything the municipality offers them.
- IT support to avoid the digital divide (e.g., stickers for Interza)
- Support for caregivers through conversation tables (e.g., for Alzheimer’s patients)
- Install more public benches
6. Environment / Climate plan
Increased subsidies for building insulation via existing subsidy regulations.
Subsidize renovation advice via the designated specialist agency.
Annual Arbor Day (tree donated by the commune)
Encourage the planting of trees: in streets, along sunken lanes, hedging fields with hedgerows to limit soil erosion and act as a refuge for small wildlife.
Greening and demineralizing public spaces: differentiated management for the cemetery, for example, and planting trees in the Letterbijter schoolyard.
Consider the creation of green spaces and the planting of trees as essential to any development project.
Creation of new dog parks so that the majority of our residents can get to them on foot: Ban Eik, Madeliefje, Zavel and adaptation of the Long Oak Park.
Enhancement and signposting of the local walking map (with educational panels), highlighting the Totemus activity.
Continue the fight against noise pollution from the Ring, overflights of our town, etc.
7. Communication
Citizen Participation
- Organize citizen consultations for large-scale projects affecting the entire municipality (e.g., mobility plan).
- Promote citizen participation through consultation for more targeted projects that affect, for example, a neighborhood (neighborhood committees, workshops, forms, etc.).
- Organize participatory projects initiated by a group of residents for the common interest, which are carried out in co-construction with the municipality, creating a commitment between the project leaders and the municipality.
- Relaunch the citizen participation platform idee-wo.be and expand it.
8. Community, Linguistics
Ensure application of the Conseil d’Etat’s rulings on language facilities and the agreement on the judicial rights of French speakers.
Support the return of the Justice of the Peace to Kraainem or Wezembeek-Oppem.
9. Security
Set up group purchases of alarm systems Organize information sessions in collaboration with the police to protect your home and provide individual advice
